Relics

Relics by Marianne Vander Dussen

Relics (22” x 36”, oil on canvas, 2016)

My first oil painting, based on a photo I took of my parents’ dilapidated barns in southeastern Ontario. The barns had to be taken down the following summer, as they were a safety risk and could collapse at any moment. I titled the piece relics because they seemed almost like an architectural monument to Victorian era farming; the barns were likely built in the 1850s.
